Following reported concerns about the use of ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in connection with coronavirus, NHS England has asked the Commission on Human Medicines (an advisory body of the MHRA) and NICE to review all available and relevant evidence.
In the meantime, patients with confirmed coronavirus or coronavirus symptoms are being advised by the NHS to use paracetamol. PAGB supports this advice.

“We have not yet seen any scientific evidence of a connection between the use of NSAIDs and outcomes for people with coronavirus or its symptoms so we welcome the decision by NHS England to ask for a review to provide clarity for people caring for themselves and others at this very challenging time.
“We echo the advice from NHS England that anyone taking ibuprofen for a long-term condition or other reason, as advised by a healthcare professional, should continue to do so.
“If you are taking paracetamol for any reason, including coronavirus symptoms, you should always read the label and follow the instructions carefully. Pharmacists can offer expert advice if you have concerns.”
